For our Canadian customers, this release of Garmin Pilot adds support for VFR flight plan filing.

Thank you for being a Garmin Pilot customer. Your feedback is always valued and welcome.

Tower Enroute Control Routes

TEC Routes

Tower Enroute Control (TEC) routes are a set of published low-altitude, short-distance IFR routes used to fly between city pairs without leaving approach control airspace. Garmin Pilot has added support for TEC routes in California.

When flight planning, select Routing to display TEC routes, which are labeled accordingly. The acronym “TEC” and the identifier for the TEC route will be included in the Remarks section when the flight plan is filed.

Frequency Widget

Frequency Widget

Frequencies are now available via a widget in split screen mode. The frequency widget may be used in conjunction with the navtrack to view frequencies along the route.

From the Map page, select Widgets from the Split Screen Selector Guide and add the Frequencies data.

Center Weather Advisories (CWAs)

Center Weather Advisories

A center weather advisory (CWA) is issued when weather conditions meet or are approaching the in-flight advisory threshold for an AIRMET, SIGMET, or convective SIGMET.

When paired with a compatible SiriusXM device along with a SiriusXM weather subscription, Garmin Pilot will display CWAs as overlays on the map.

From the Map page, select Center Wx Adv overlay from the map layer icon.

Canadian VFR Flight Plan Filing

Canadian VFR Flight Plan Filing

For customers with a Canada Standard license, Garmin Pilot now supports VFR flight plan filing. From the Trip Planning page, select Global VFR Filing Service for the Filing Information.

NavCanada requires additional information to file a VFR flight plan, and a form is displayed to collect this data, including:

  • Pilot License Number
  • Arrival Contact
  • Gear Type
  • Emergency Radios
  • ELT Type
  • SAR Time
  • SAR Contact Name, Phone and Address

Simply add the required information and select File to submit your flight plan.

Note: For users of both Apple™ and Android™ devices, you must upgrade to version 8.3.6 of the Android™ app to ensure consistency across platforms.
